About this experience
A six-day excursion encompassing some of Tanzania’s world-class highlights. We set out from Arusha, in the shadow of mighty Mount Meru, with Tarangire as the first stop. The landscape in this national park, the country’s third-largest, is diverse and its river draws in all manner of wildlife.

Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose this six-day private safari if you want Tanzania’s headline wildlife landscapes arranged as one continuous journey rather than a series of separate day trips. It begins with an Arusha arrival night, then moves through Lake Manyara and Serengeti, with Ngorongoro forming part of the wider safari route. The appeal is the combination of a dedicated 4x4, accommodation, park fees and most meals, leaving you to focus on the rhythm of game drives and changing scenery.
Who this itinerary suits best
I think this is an especially strong fit for first-time safari travellers who value a guide-led, private format and want several distinct environments in one trip. Lake Manyara is framed around plains, acacia woodland and the alkaline lake shore, while the Serengeti day prioritises the scale of the plains themselves. That contrast makes the itinerary feel broader than simply repeating game drives in one reserve.
It can also work well for a family or mixed-age party that prefers to travel together rather than join a larger vehicle. The stated fitness requirement is not demanding, and infant seats are available; still, I’d regard the long days in a vehicle as the more important consideration than walking ability.
Pick lodging for the atmosphere you want after the drive
The meaningful choice here is not the route but your overnight style. I’d choose Comfort Lodging if sleeping in glamping tents with private bathrooms sounds like part of the safari experience rather than a compromise. Choose Comfort Plus if you prefer upscale lodges and modern amenities, which feels like the sensible middle ground for travellers who want reliable comfort without making the accommodation the main event.
For a more indulgent trip, Luxury Lodging and Luxury Plus move toward five-star or boutique properties and refined camps. I’d reserve those options for travellers who will genuinely enjoy a more polished stay each night; otherwise, the Comfort or Comfort Plus tiers keep the focus on the parks themselves. Specific named properties may be substituted with similar options, so choose the category for its style rather than attachment to a single lodge name.
Plan for a travel day, not just wildlife viewing
My advice is to protect your energy for day three. The transfer toward the Serengeti is described as about five hours and 222 km, even though it is also a scenic part of the experience: the Rift Valley route and the first sight of the plains are presented as a highlight in their own right. Bring your patience as well as your camera; this is an itinerary for travellers happy to let the journey between parks be part of the safari.
Meals are structured to make these longer days straightforward, with breakfast, lunch and dinner listed on the safari days and picnic lunchboxes on the early departures. Soft drinks, coffee, tea and water are included during game drives, which I think removes several small logistical worries.
Understand the comfort limits and what remains outside the package
I’d be clear-eyed about the trade-off: this is an active six-day overland safari, not a stay-put lodge break. Although it is rated suitable across fitness levels, it is not recommended for pregnant travellers or those with poor cardiovascular health. That distinction matters more than the easy-fitness label when deciding whether the driving pace is right for you.
The core safari costs are unusually well bundled—five lunches, five dinners, five breakfasts, accommodation and park fees—but flights, visas, insurance, tips, lodge drinks and laundry remain separate. Build those into your overall plan from the outset, particularly if you are choosing a higher lodging tier.
